I appreaciate the insightful critiques, from the good folks at The Watcher's Council, on the movies currently making the scene, (pardon the pun!) It is Memorial Day weekend, & I am going to see Thor. For now, I will just submit that I am a true Marvelite fan of Thor, since the days that Stan Lee & Jack Kirby were actually producing the fabled, cosmic-spanning, blockbuster series, in the '60's. Lee & Kirby were the "Lennon/McCartney" of the comics world; and, like the Beatles music catalogue, their graphic stories have weathered the passing decades, are timeless; & remain classic, in every sense of the word. One of my favorite things in the Thor books, in those days, was a sub-series, in each issue, called, "Tales of Asgard," which explored the adventures of Thor & his brother, Loki, while they were kids & teenagers. I understand there is an animated series coming out, based on these "Tales of Asgard," which I am eagerly anticipating. In closing, I will say that, it took alot of guts for director Kenneth Branagh, who grew up reading the same Thor comics I did, & which fostered his love of the character; to take on the gargantuan task of adapting the Thor comic to film; cosmic in scope, sweeping in grandeur; & the ever-present challenge of risking character development & a good story, for cgi sensationalism, special effects extravaganza..! Thus, spoke the Thunder-God..!
